Lake Balaton Sunset Hike And Garden Planetarium Show
Discover the hidden treasures of Lake Balaton on this special sunset tour that combines nature, astronomy and Hungarian history
Solar wonders & Balaton sunset views
Your journey begins at Balatonszárszó train station, where our vintage Subaru Libero glass-top minibus will be waiting to greet you. After a short and scenic ride, we arrive in the peaceful Nezde area, where an easy hike leads us up to Nezdepuszta Hill.
Along the way, we’ll stop at the Nezde Sculpture Park, home to nine captivating works celebrating Hungarian heritage and our deep connection with nature.
At the hilltop, we’ll enjoy a relaxing picnic and a solar telescope demonstration. In clear weather, you’ll have the chance to observe the Sun’s surface, sunspots, and shimmering solar light patterns. As the day winds down, take in a breathtaking sunset over Lake Balaton from one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the region.
We’ll then return to Astro Garden Balaton, where the experience concludes in our garden planetarium. There, you’ll enjoy a stunning short film from the European Space Agency (ESA) that takes you on a visual journey through the Solar System and the wider Universe.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! The trail is beginner-friendly with gentle slopes and well-marked paths. It’s perfect for anyone who enjoys walking in nature, therefore no special experience needed.
There are no toilets directly along the trail, so plan ahead. A compost toilet will be available at Astro Garden Balaton where we’ll stop by for the planetarium screening.
We recommend wearing comfortable hiking boots or sturdy shoes, as some parts of the trail can be rocky or uneven. Bring a raincoat or warm clothes, depending on the season, since the weather around Lake Balaton can change quickly.
Don’t forget water, sandwiches or snacks, and of course, a camera to capture the beautiful views of the lake!
If the weather doesn’t cooperate or something unexpected comes up on our end, don’t worry — you’ll get a full refund within 24 hours.
